Soil is the foundation to all that we define as real estate. Much of our life's activities are related to and influenced by the soils beneath our homes, our shopping centers, our highways, our parks, etc. We live on it, play on it, work on it and gather food from it. The enjoyable and successful use of the land is influenced by the soil that is beneath it. *

Soils are categorized in terms of series. These soil series are named for towns or local landmarks. For example, Mexico soils are named for the town of same name, located in north-central Missouri. More than 500 soil series have been identified in Missouri.
